At Alpha Floor Sanding Ltd, we specialise in high-quality, dust-free floor sanding services across London, Kent, and Surrey. Floor sanding is a meticulous process of removing the top layer of wooden floors using abrasive materials, suitable for solid wood floors including parquet, original floorboards, artistic floors, cork, and engineered wood. With advanced equipment and expert techniques, we achieve a flawless finish that meets our clients’ needs.

Our floor sanding service is tailored to each floor based on factors such as:

  • The type of flooring,
  • The thickness of the wood,
  • The wood’s condition,
  • The type of old finish to be removed, and
  • The depth of existing scratches or dents.

Our Modern Dust-Free Equipment

We use cutting-edge sanding equipment connected to 3000W industrial dust collectors with HEPA filters, which provide superior dust containment compared to traditional dust bags. This ensures even the smallest particles are captured, keeping your space as clean as possible.

Our equipment lineup includes:

  1. Belt Sanders – These heavy-duty machines handle 90% of the floor area with consistency and power.
  2. Edger – Perfect for hard-to-reach spots where the belt sander can’t reach, such as edges, corners, and under furniture or radiators.
  3. Orbital or Dual-Action Sanders – Used to smooth out scratches left by the edger, creating a uniform surface.
  4. Delta Sander – Ideal for the smallest areas, such as around radiator pipes, furniture legs, and intricate corners.
  5. Buffing or Trio Machines – These machines provide a final smoothing pass across the entire floor area, preparing it for finishing treatments such as varnishing, oiling, staining, or waxing.

Our Floor Sanding Process

Our professional floor sanding process is carried out in three main phases to achieve a seamless, scratch-free surface:

Phase 1 – Removing the Old Finish
In the first phase, we remove any old finishes (e.g., lacquer, varnish, oil, or wax) and level differences between boards or tiles. This is done with coarse sandpapers like P36, P24, or, if required, even P16 or P12. This stage includes an initial edging pass to ensure a smooth transition across the entire floor.

Phase 2 – Smoothing Scratches from Phase 1
The second phase involves smoothing out any remaining scratches with finer sandpaper, following only the wood’s grain. We progress through finer grits based on the final grit used in Phase 1, reaching up to P60 to ensure a consistent finish. This phase also includes a second pass with the edger.

Phase 3 – Preparing for Buffing
The final phase prepares the floor for buffing by smoothing out residual scratches from Phase 2. This stage uses P100 or P120 grit sandpaper, along with a dual-action sander, to create an ultra-smooth surface. This phase also involves two steps with the dual-action sander to refine the finish.
