Filling the gaps of your floor can be done in a different ways.
Alpha Floor Sanding Ltd offers various solutions when it comes to wood floor gap filling.
Sawdust and resin
This method is very popular, and it can be used for every floor with gaps smaller than 4mm.
We like it because the colour of this filler is a 100% match to the colour of the floor when sawdust from the same floor is mixed with the special resin. The bad thing about it is not very flexible, and if the floor is not stable, it cracks after a while.
Pine slivers / Wooden strips
We use this method mainly on pine floors with gaps wider than 4mm. The floorboard slivers we offer are specially made from reclaimed wood to match the colour of the old victorian pine floorboards. We hammer the strips of wood into the gap, and then the excess is shaved before the sanding process. This method can be used only on strong and solid floors.
Bona gap master
We use this method on floors not that stable. This type of filler is flexible and can handle a bit of a movement between the blocks / boards of the floor without cracking. The bad thing about it is the colour choice is limited.
Draughtex
Draughtex is a comparatively new product on the market and is meant to be more like insulation. When properly installed is not visible at all but prevents the cold air coming into the room through the gaps of the floor. We are using this method when the floor has big gaps but is not stable enough for Slivers gap-filling or when the client wants to insulate the draught without compromising the original look of the floor.
Piece of mind when gap filling:
The gaps between your original floorboards are there on purpose and they are part of the air circulation system of your house. Bear in mind that applying the floorboard gap filler is a tricky job, it should be done carefully. We recommend installing a ventilation grill on your floor after you seal the gaps to prevent future problems.
